Background

In the 1990s, the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) Youth Camp was held manly in European countries, making it difficult for the Deaf youths from the Asian region to participate. Therefore, Malaysia hosted the 1st Asia-Pacific Deaf Youth Camp to make it easier for the youths in Asian region to participate. Unit 2003, the name of the camp changed to the 3rd WFD Regional Secretariat for Asia/Pacific (RSA/P) Youth Camp and hosted by the Japanese Federation of the Deaf Youth Section. After this camp, a prospectus of the Camp as drafted by WFD RSA/P and was adopted at the 16th WFD RSA/P Representatives Meeting that was held on 2004 n Jakarta, Indonesia. The camp is for the Deaf youths aged 18 to 35 years old from each country member of WFD RSA/P.
Each WFD RSA/P member can only send up to 4 Deaf youths. The camp objectives are to provide Deaf youths to gain leadership skills, exchange ideas for youths and advocacy work, enhance the pride in Deaf culture, identity and history, build the networking; and understand the culture in Asia-Pacific region.

The WFD RSA/P was renamed to WFD RSA, with effect from I January 2013.
